Welcome to SeedBombs.uk

Welcome to SeedBombs.uk   We are a Lincolnshire based business, specialising in Seed Bombs, Wildflower Seed Mix and over 450 varieties of Flower Seeds.  Seed bombs are a fun and eco-friendly way to plant wildflowers in your garden and help restore biodiversity.  Seed bombs are used to recreate habitat and encourage pollinators and wildlife such as bees, butterflies and birds.   Seed bombs can help combat habitat loss, increase green space, and nourish the soil. They can also be an alternative to traditional gardening practices that use pesticides and fertilizers.  Wildflowers can transform a bare area into something creative and joyful.

You can scatter seed bombs onto bare soil, grass, or in flowerbeds, plant pots, or meadows. You can also throw, break up, or dig them into areas that need some brightening up.  Seed bombs work best when used immediately, but you can store them in a cool, dark, dry place for up to 12 months if needed.

What is a Seed Bomb?

Seed bombs, also known as seed balls or earth balls, are balls of seeds, clay, compost and chilli powder.   Each seed bomb is its own little ecosystem with enough nutrition to get the seeds started and help them grow.   The seed bomb helps protect the seeds inside from being eaten by birds, slugs and snails, allowing them to germinate when they are ready.  They can be a better option than simply scattering seeds because the seeds are contained in a clay ball, it helps protect the seeds from being eaten, before they have a chance to germinate.

Seed bombs are generally low-maintenance and can be stored until it's time to use them.  You can scatter them on bare soil or compost, leaving at least 10 cm between each ball.   When it rains or you water the area, the clay will start to break down and this triggers germination.    Seed bombs can promote biodiversity, support pollinators, and add natural beauty to gardens. They can also be used to create wildlife habitats in urban areas, such as in derelict land or public green spaces.  You can scatter seed bombs onto bare soil, grass, or in flowerbeds, plant pots, or meadows.   Seed bombs remain in a dormant state until they get enough water to start germinating, so they will last for up to 2 years if stored correctly in a cool, dark and dry place.

Seed Bombs can be scattered or planted at anytime, but for best results, you should ideally scatter seed bombs in the spring or autumn, when the weather is not too hot or cold, and there is enough natural rainfall for the clay to breakdown and the seeds to start germinating.

Seed Bombs are perfectly safe to handle and throw.   However, some natural wildflowers such as Foxglove (Digitalis) are poisonous, both the plant and the seeds.   So please be careful and practice good hygiene by always remembering to wash your hands after touching seed balls, just in case.   Please note that seed bombs are not for consumption, and should be kept out of reach of children.

Our seed bombs measure approximately 20mm in diameter and each of our seed bombs contain approximately 100 seeds, although this may vary slightly from seed bomb to seed bomb.    Not all seeds will germinate, please don’t expect 100 plants from each ball.    Out of 100 seeds, approximately 10-20 will germinate.  Not all seeds will germinate in the first year, some seeds may germinate the following year.
